Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients of all ages quickly and accurately to determine acuity and immediate needs
- Administer medications and age‑specific therapeutics safely and accurately
- Respond to emergencies with calm, evidence‑based life‑saving interventions
- Document assessments, interventions and patient responses thoroughly and clearly
- Coordinate patient care with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure smooth transitions
- Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff appropriately to maintain safe, efficient care
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans using the nursing process
- Provide patient and family education to promote recovery and safe discharge
- Participate in unit initiatives, in‑services and ongoing competency validation
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times
Qualifications
- Valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska required at time of submission
- BLS and PALS required upon hire; ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Flu vaccination required (have or obtain)
- TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications preferred depending on specialty area
- One year of clinical nursing experience preferred; ED or specialty experience preferred
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions during shifts and remain calm in emergencies
- Willingness to complete mandatory training and competency checks as directed
Education
- Education sufficient to obtain a valid Alaska RN license (graduate of an accredited nursing program required to meet licensing criteria)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment skills across pediatric, adult and geriatric populations
- Knowledge of medication effects, side effects and safe administration
- Competency with emergency equipment (defibrillator, monitors, airway management tools)
- Skills in documentation, chart review and interdisciplinary communication
- Ability to develop and evaluate nursing care plans and adjust based on patient response
- Leadership skills for delegation, supervision and mentoring of staff
- Ability to perform or assist with specialty emergency procedures as needed
