Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate medically complex patients and identify individualized therapy needs
- Develop and implement functional treatment plans that promote safe, meaningful outcomes
- Provide daily therapy sessions (typically 15 to 60 minutes) tailored to each patient
- Perform swallow assessments and provide evidence-based swallow treatment when appropriate
- Conduct cognitive assessments and deliver targeted cognitive rehabilitation
- Prescribe clinical diets based on swallow function and collaborate with the care team on recommendations
- Complete timely, accurate EMR evaluations and daily documentation to support continuity of care
- Participate in hospital and departmental orientation and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- BLS certification (required)
- Active professional license as required by state and facility (license verification required)
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and treating medically complex patients
- Comfort and experience with EMR evaluation and daily documentation
- Skills in swallow assessment and treatment, and cognitive assessment and treatment (highly recommended)
- Willingness to complete required health screenings and immunizations as part of onboarding
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in speech therapy evaluation and treatment planning
- Experience with EMR systems and strong documentation practices
- Knowledge of dysphagia assessment and intervention strategies
- Familiarity with cognitive assessment tools and rehabilitation approaches
- Ability to collaborate effectively with nurses, dietitians, and physicians
- Strong clinical reasoning and patient-centered communication skills
