Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-quality ortho and critical care nursing during night shifts
- Perform thorough patient assessments, post-op monitoring, and timely documentation
- Administer medications, manage pain protocols, and coordinate post-operative care
- Float confidently to inpatient departments as needed, adapting to different unit workflows
- Collaborate with surgeons, rehab teams, and support staff to deliver seamless patient transitions
- Take initiative to learn PCU-specific tasks unique to this facility and share best practices
- Maintain accurate charts and handoffs to ensure continuity of care across shifts
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois (required)
- Experience in ortho, bone & joint care or critical care settings preferred
- Comfort and ability to float to multiple inpatient departments (ER excluded)
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS or other advanced certifications encouraged
- Strong assessment skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication
- Ability to work nights and every other weekend as required
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-operative ortho patient care and mobility management
- Wound care, pain management, and medication administration
- Telemetry monitoring and recognizing clinical changes overnight
- Versatility to learn PCU-specific tasks and adapt to new unit practices
- Team collaboration, prioritization, and critical thinking under pressure
- Professional documentation and smooth handoff practices
