Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to Med Surg/MS-Telemetry patients, ensuring safety and dignity
- Perform telemetry and cardiac monitoring, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond promptly to changes in patient status
- Administer medications and intravenous therapies accurately, including blood and blood products when indicated
- Carry out wound care, feeding tube and Foley catheter management with attention to best practices
- Initiate and maintain IV access and perform venous blood draws for timely lab processing
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to ensure clear communication across the care team
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners such as PT, RT, Pharmacy, and Social Services to support patient recovery
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, discharge planning, and safety to promote positive outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg/Telemetry experience (MS/Tele) required
- BLS required; ACLS and CPI highly preferred
- EPIC charting experience required
- Comfortable with IV starts, medication administration, venous blood draws, and blood product administration
- Experience with tracheostomy care, suctioning, oxygen therapy, feeding tube and wound care preferred
- Ability to float to other units within the OSU organization as needed
- Willingness to complete a 36-hour orientation to get you set up for success
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry and cardiac monitoring skills, including dysrhythmia interpretation
- IV therapy, IV starts, and venous blood draw expertise
- Medication administration and familiarity with anticoagulation and common med classes
- Tracheostomy care, suctioning, and supplemental oxygen delivery
- Wound care and pressure injury prevention
- Feeding tube management, PEG/NG care, and enteral feeding procedures
- Foley catheter care and genitourinary assessments
- Strong patient education, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication skills
- Comfort using EPIC and performing accurate labs/charting
