Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Various day and evening 8-hour shifts between 6:00 AM - 11:30 PM; typical mid shift 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Monday-Friday. Rotating day/evening schedule with weekend rotation (approximately 1 weekend every 4-5 weeks), 6-7 weeknight call shifts per month, and at least 1 holiday call per year. Shift type: rotating (day & evening)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Process, sterilize, and prepare surgical instruments using strict aseptic technique to ensure patient safety
• Operate and maintain sterilization equipment and follow instrument tracking protocols accurately
• Support OR teams by assembling procedure-specific instrument sets for ortho, robotic, general, OB/GYN and specialty cases
• Perform quality checks, documentation, and EPIC charting related to sterile processing activities
• Respond to call requests and adapt to schedule changes to maintain departmental coverage
• Work collaboratively with perioperative staff to streamline turnover and improve instrument availability

Qualifications

• Required: BLS (AHA) certification at time of submittal
• Required: CRCST OR CSPDT certification (one or the other; duos not accepted)
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (posting lists 2 years); at least 1 year of travel experience preferred and 1+ year of SPD permanent-side experience preferred
• Willingness to take call, work varied shifts, and adjust shifts to meet volume needs
• Must not be currently full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity) per radius rule
• Adherence to fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification: CRCST or CSPDT required
• BLS (AHA) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Instrument sterilization and processing best practices
• Operating Room (OR) workflows and sterile field awareness
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Experience with high-volume orthopedics and robotic surgery cases is a plus
• Strong attention to detail, speed, and efficiency under pressure
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to be a dependable team player
• Comfort with call responsibilities and variable scheduling
