Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Assist with meal service and ensure residents receive appropriate nourishment and hydration
- Observe residents closely and report changes in condition promptly to nursing staff and supervisors
- Document resident care accurately and timely to maintain clear communication across the care team
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, offering dignity and respect in every interaction
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused environment by communicating clearly and supporting colleagues during busy times
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or equivalent credential
- Prior experience working with older adults or in long-term care settings is preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and a patient, compassionate attitude
- Ability to pass facility-required background checks, TB screening, and health screenings
- Basic ability to read, write, and document accurately in care records
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain shortly after hire
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and respect for resident dignity
- Basic infection control and hand hygiene practices
- Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Time management to balance routine care and unexpected needs
- Comfort with documenting care and following care plans
