Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and respect
- Provide compassionate hands-on care while promoting independence whenever possible
- Monitor and document resident condition, reporting changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe mobility and transfer techniques to reduce falls and encourage comfort
- Help create a warm, home-like environment by engaging residents in conversation and meaningful activities
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care
Qualifications
- Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Background check and health screening (TB test, immunizations) required as per facility policy
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatrics is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-centered attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved GNA program or equivalent certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic patient care procedures and infection control
- Ability to observe, document, and report changes in resident status
- Comfortable with safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and the care team
- Basic charting and documentation skills
