Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and respect
• Take and record vital signs accurately and report any changes to clinical staff
• Support mobility and safe transfers, ensuring a safe environment for residents
• Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents and families
• Document care provided in the resident chart/EHR clearly and promptly
• Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to maintain resident safety
• Communicate effectively with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to support care plans

Qualifications

• Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) credential or completion of an approved GNA program; Maryland certification preferred or eligibility to obtain
• Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by the facility
• Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a compassionate, resident-focused approach
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a care team

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred; completion of a state-approved GNA training program required

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic patient care principles
• Competence in taking/recording vitals and observing for clinical changes
• Familiarity with infection control practices and resident safety protocols
• Basic charting/documentation skills and comfort with electronic records or paper charts
• Ability to follow care plans and communicate observations to licensed staff
