Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and respect
- Take and record vital signs accurately and report any changes to clinical staff
- Support mobility and safe transfers, ensuring a safe environment for residents
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents and families
- Document care provided in the resident chart/EHR clearly and promptly
- Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to maintain resident safety
- Communicate effectively with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to support care plans
Qualifications
- Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) credential or completion of an approved GNA program; Maryland certification preferred or eligibility to obtain
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by the facility
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a compassionate, resident-focused approach
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a care team
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred; completion of a state-approved GNA training program required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic patient care principles
- Competence in taking/recording vitals and observing for clinical changes
- Familiarity with infection control practices and resident safety protocols
- Basic charting/documentation skills and comfort with electronic records or paper charts
- Ability to follow care plans and communicate observations to licensed staff
