Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage complex critical care patients in a Level 1 trauma surgical/neuro ICU and Medical Cardiac ICU
• Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and per protocol
• Operate and manage ventilators (Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840 and others)
• Interpret ECG and telemetry strips independently and act on dysrhythmias
• Provide trauma and neuro-specific nursing care (crani, ex-lap, TPA post-care, ARDS, sepsis)
• Collaborate with intensivists, RT, and multidisciplinary team for 24/7 patient care
• Serve as charge nurse when scheduled, ensuring unit flow and patient safety
• Participate in orientation activities including a pass/fail Sim Lab and skills validation

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit) required
• Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required (experience must include neuro or cardiovascular/CV exposure)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; NIHSS required
• UNA Dysrhythmia exam required 24–48 hours prior to acceptance (maximum 2 attempts)
• Successful completion of a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
• Demonstrated competency with drip titration, ventilator management and telemetry interpretation
• Comfort floating to tele/other ICUs and working in a fast-paced Level 1 trauma center
• Willingness to work nights and required weekend coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• ICU nursing and critical care fundamentals
• Drip titration and vasoactive medication management
• Mechanical ventilation management and common ventilator platforms
• ECG and telemetry interpretation; dysrhythmia recognition
• Neuro and cardiovascular critical care knowledge (CVA, post-TPA, post-op CV procedures)
• Trauma assessment and post-op trauma care
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system and GE monitors
• Experience or exposure to ECMO, IABP, Impella, CRRT is a plus
