Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments to guide safe, effective care
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, balancing therapy and medication
- Manage psychopharmacologic therapy, monitor outcomes, and adjust regimens as needed
- Collaborate closely with nursing, social work, and therapy teams to deliver coordinated care
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for acute psychiatric needs
- Document encounters clearly and promptly in the patient record to support continuity of care
- Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to program development and quality improvement
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree and successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry preferred
- Active or eligible for an active California medical license (physicians must obtain CA licensure prior to practice)
- Valid DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA registration
- Demonstrated experience working with psychiatric populations in inpatient or forensic settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
Education
- MD or DO in Medicine with completed Psychiatry residency
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatments
- Experience with risk assessment and crisis management in acute care settings
- Comfortable using electronic health records and documenting treatment plans
- Culturally sensitive approach and ability to engage patients from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent collaboration skills to partner with nursing, therapy, and correctional staff as needed
