Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living
- Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Monitor residents and report changes in condition promptly to licensed nursing staff
- Document care accurately and timely in the facility charting system
- Support mealtime assistance and basic feeding needs while respecting resident preferences
- Foster a dignified, respectful environment that promotes independence and comfort
- Maintain infection control standards and a clean, safe care environment
- Collaborate with the care team to implement individualized care plans
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or state equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required or able to obtain
- Comfortable working night shifts and in long term care settings
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Background check and any facility-required screenings must be cleared
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and resident dignity
- Familiarity with safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Basic vital signs measurement and observation skills
- Comfortable with charting and documenting care accurately
- Compassionate bedside manner and patience with older adults
- Ability to follow care plans and communicate changes effectively
