Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based occupational therapy interventions as a COTA to support patient independence
- Implement individualized treatment plans developed by the OTR and document progress clearly and on time
- Use adaptive equipment and therapeutic activities to improve functional outcomes
- Collaborate with therapists, nursing staff, and families to create cohesive care plans
- Educate patients and caregivers on home programs and safe strategies for daily living
- Participate in team meetings and contribute observations to refine patient goals
Qualifications
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential
- Active New Mexico COTA licensure or ability to obtain state licensure before start
- Comfortable working with adult and/or rehabilitation populations in a contract setting
- Strong documentation skills and familiarity with clinical charting standards
- Excellent communication and teamwork mindset
- Basic life support certification (BLS/CPR) preferred or willing to obtain
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience with therapeutic activities, ADL training, and adaptive equipment
- Skilled in implementing treatment plans under OTR supervision
- Proficient in clinical documentation and outcomes tracking
- Ability to engage patients and families with clear education and motivation techniques
- Good time management, organization, and problem-solving in a fast-paced setting
