Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on occupational therapy services under the direction of the supervising OT to help patients regain independence
- Implement individualized treatment plans that focus on activities of daily living, adaptive techniques, and meaningful functional goals
- Document patient progress clearly and timely in the medical record to support continuity of care
- Collaborate with nurses, PTs, SLPs and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient-centered care
- Educate patients and families on home programs, adaptive equipment, and safety strategies to promote long-term success
- Adapt therapeutic activities and recommend assistive devices to meet each patient’s unique needs
Qualifications
- Current COTA certification (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) required
- Active state occupational therapy assistant licensure or eligibility (follow NJ state requirements)
- Experience in inpatient rehabilitation, post-acute care, or similar settings is highly valued
- Strong clinical reasoning, documentation skills, and the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or able to obtain prior to start
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or related allied health field required
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL retraining, therapeutic activities, and adaptive equipment recommendations
- Solid knowledge of documentation best practices and outcome tracking
- Ability to assess functional status and implement evidence-based interventions
- Strong communication and patient education skills for working with diverse populations
- Comfortable with dynamic caseloads and prioritizing patient needs
