Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing operative and invasive procedures
• Prepare the operating room and necessary equipment, maintaining strict aseptic technique and patient safety
• Educate patients and their support persons about procedures, expectations, and postoperative care
• Assess and address patients' psychological and socio-cultural needs throughout the surgical experience
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to ensure seamless care
• Document care, communicate changes in patient status, and contribute to continuous quality improvement

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Iowa (compact license accepted if valid for Iowa practice)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior experience in the operating room or perioperative environment preferred
• Strong patient education and communication skills with the ability to support patients and families
• Ability to work effectively on a team, follow protocols, and maintain meticulous documentation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in surgical patient care and perioperative nursing processes
• Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and OR workflow
• Skilled in patient education, psychosocial support, and culturally sensitive care
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond calmly in fast-paced clinical situations
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clear clinical documentation
