Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care for stepdown patients, monitoring and responding to changes in condition with confidence
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage telemetry monitoring to identify and escalate critical events quickly
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following protocols and documenting thoroughly
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Perform focused assessments, including neurological checks using NIHSS when indicated, and contribute to care planning
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation and complete required competency and specialty assessments
• Support patient and family education—explain treatments, medications, and discharge plans with clarity and compassion

Qualifications

• Active RN license with ability to verify via Nursys and complete license/certificate verification
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS and DCI/BVP certifications preferred or required per unit guidelines
• Clinical experience in a stepdown, telemetry, or progressive care setting preferred
• Ability to pass required health screenings and background checks (COVID-19 vaccine, TB, drug screen, fit test, etc.)
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and comfort working independently during night shifts
• Successful completion of facility-required competency exams and specialty skills checks prior to start

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid understanding of basic pharmacology and safe medication administration
• Proven rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills
• Glucose management and related training knowledge
• Familiarity with telemetry equipment and alarm management
• Proficient documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records
• Ability to perform focused neurological assessments and use NIHSS scoring when needed
• Excellent prioritization and time-management skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
