Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care for stepdown patients, monitoring and responding to changes in condition with confidence
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage telemetry monitoring to identify and escalate critical events quickly
- Administer medications and treatments safely, following protocols and documenting thoroughly
- Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
- Perform focused assessments, including neurological checks using NIHSS when indicated, and contribute to care planning
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation and complete required competency and specialty assessments
- Support patient and family education—explain treatments, medications, and discharge plans with clarity and compassion
Qualifications
- Active RN license with ability to verify via Nursys and complete license/certificate verification
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS and DCI/BVP certifications preferred or required per unit guidelines
- Clinical experience in a stepdown, telemetry, or progressive care setting preferred
- Ability to pass required health screenings and background checks (COVID-19 vaccine, TB, drug screen, fit test, etc.)
- Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and comfort working independently during night shifts
- Successful completion of facility-required competency exams and specialty skills checks prior to start
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of basic pharmacology and safe medication administration
- Proven rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills
- Glucose management and related training knowledge
- Familiarity with telemetry equipment and alarm management
- Proficient documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records
- Ability to perform focused neurological assessments and use NIHSS scoring when needed
- Excellent prioritization and time-management skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
