Roles & Responsibilities
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment to hospital standards, ensuring patient safety
- Prep and pack instrument sets and vendor trays accurately and on time for OR cases
- Sterilize supplies and maintain sterile stores, including picking and staging case carts
- Support the Operating Room by preparing specialty sets for ortho, spine, DaVinci XI, ENT, urology and trauma cases
- Document processing and inventory tasks in EPIC and other hospital systems as required
- Participate in competency checks and orientation activities until fully confident in each area
- Respond to on-call requests within the required 30-minute response time when scheduled
- Collaborate with teammates and leadership to maintain a safe, efficient sterile processing department
Qualifications
- CRCST or CSPDT certification required (Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Sterile Processing Technician)
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience preferred
- Driver's license required for submission; candidates should be within a 60-mile radius
- Detail-oriented, hardworking, adaptable, and able to float within SPD (Decontam, Prep & Pack, Sterile Stores)
- Ability to wear full surgical attire and follow OR dress code while on duty
- Willingness to complete a 12-hour orientation and demonstrate competencies
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- CRCST or CSPDT certification (required)
- BLS (AHA) certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of instrument decontamination, sterilization methods, and prep & pack workflows
- Familiarity with specialty instrumentation: ortho (total joints), trauma, arthroscopy, spine, ENT, urology and DaVinci XI
- Experience processing vendor trays and preparing sterile case carts
- Comfortable using EPIC for charting and tracking sterilization/processing tasks
- Excellent attention to detail, infection control practices, and sterile technique
- Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with OR staff and leadership
