Roles & Responsibilities

• Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment to hospital standards, ensuring patient safety
• Prep and pack instrument sets and vendor trays accurately and on time for OR cases
• Sterilize supplies and maintain sterile stores, including picking and staging case carts
• Support the Operating Room by preparing specialty sets for ortho, spine, DaVinci XI, ENT, urology and trauma cases
• Document processing and inventory tasks in EPIC and other hospital systems as required
• Participate in competency checks and orientation activities until fully confident in each area
• Respond to on-call requests within the required 30-minute response time when scheduled
• Collaborate with teammates and leadership to maintain a safe, efficient sterile processing department

Qualifications

• CRCST or CSPDT certification required (Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Sterile Processing Technician)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 1 year of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience preferred
• Driver's license required for submission; candidates should be within a 60-mile radius
• Detail-oriented, hardworking, adaptable, and able to float within SPD (Decontam, Prep & Pack, Sterile Stores)
• Ability to wear full surgical attire and follow OR dress code while on duty
• Willingness to complete a 12-hour orientation and demonstrate competencies

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• CRCST or CSPDT certification (required)
• BLS (AHA) certification (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of instrument decontamination, sterilization methods, and prep & pack workflows
• Familiarity with specialty instrumentation: ortho (total joints), trauma, arthroscopy, spine, ENT, urology and DaVinci XI
• Experience processing vendor trays and preparing sterile case carts
• Comfortable using EPIC for charting and tracking sterilization/processing tasks
• Excellent attention to detail, infection control practices, and sterile technique
• Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with OR staff and leadership
