Shift Type: Night shifts, 12-hour shifts (NOC), Every-Other-Week (EOW) scheduling with 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (weekends for nights: Fri/Sat). Nights, EOW, first-to-float; exact start/end times vary by facility and schedule.

Candidate Pay Rate: $77 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the emergency department as the Nurse Shift Manager, stepping into Charge RN duties as needed
- Provide direct patient care when required — triage ambulance patients, start IVs, and administer medications
- Support staff and serve as a resource nurse to ensure safe patient ratios and quality care
- Coordinate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy (Omnicell), hospitalists/intensivists and the MET team for seamless patient management
- Document thoroughly in Cerner and maintain compliance with unit policies and stroke center protocols
- Assist with orientation and mentorship for ED techs, float staff, and other team members
- Respond to call/standby assignments (must be able to report within 30 minutes when on call)
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure (eligible to practice in California)
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience (ER experience strongly preferred)
- Strong Charge RN experience or management/leadership experience (Nurse Shift Manager role)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (AHA/APEX acceptable where noted)
- Comfortable with Cerner EMR and bedside documentation
- Experience triaging ambulance patients, IV starts, and medication administration
- Ability to float between campuses and work nights, weekends, and potential mid-shift floats
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency Nursing best practices and ED triage
- Charge nurse responsibilities, staffing and resource management
- Skillful IV insertion and medication administration
- Cerner electronic medical record proficiency
- Familiarity with ventilator management and collaboration with RT
- Stroke center processes and NIHSS assessment
- Working knowledge of Omnicell pharmacy workflows
- Experience collaborating with MET teams, hospitalists, and ED techs
