Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care including tub, sponge, and bed baths
- Assist patients with toileting, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene
- Measure and accurately record vital signs and intake/output
- Collect stool, urine, and sputum specimens for analysis
- Administer enemas under nurse supervision and follow treatment directions
- Position, lift, and transfer patients safely using appropriate equipment
- Assist with range of motion exercises and mobility needs
- Prepare and feed patients who require assistance, following diet orders
- Transport patients on gurneys and wheelchairs to other hospital areas
- Document patient care and observations clearly on approved flow sheets
- Apply oxygen via nasal cannula or simple/nebulizer mask under direction
- Maintain infection control and a clean, safe environment for patients
Qualifications
- Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential (required)
- Demonstrated experience with patient care and activities of daily living
- Comfortable performing vital signs, specimen collection, and documentation
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transfer patients using proper equipment
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
Education
- Active CNA certification (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient hygiene and personal care best practices
- Vital signs measurement and accurate charting
- Clinical documentation and use of hospital-approved flow sheets
- Infection control procedures and sterile technique awareness
- Specimen collection (stool, urine, sputum) and intake/output tracking
- Safe patient lifting, transfers, and mobility assistance
- Feeding assistance and meal tray verification
- Familiarity with oxygen delivery via nasal cannula and masks
