Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all Plant Operations, Environmental Services, and Grounds teams — manage roughly 45 FTEs with clarity and purpose
- Set clear expectations and develop job-specific training and customer-service behaviors
- Direct maintenance of utility systems to ensure continuous heat, steam, power, gas and medical gases for patient care
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs and ensure equipment is serviced according to manufacturer recommendations
- Inspect machines and systems to detect and repair malfunctions promptly and safely
- Ensure contractor compliance with regulations and hospital policies when outside vendors are engaged
- Serve as a departmental liaison — assess needs across the organization and develop action plans to meet them
- Maintain facility compliance with NFPA, OSHA, EPA, CMS and applicable local building and fire codes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field
- Minimum of 5+ years of personnel management experience
- Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience with electricity, electronics, plumbing, carpentry, boiler operation, HVAC and general building maintenance
- Experience with autoclaving, bio-waste handling, life safety codes and construction phasing
- Ability to apply engineering principles to diagnose and repair equipment or system malfunctions
- Willingness to relocate to a rural area (required)
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Facility management and plant operations expertise
- Preventive maintenance planning and execution
- HVAC, boiler operation, plumbing and electrical systems knowledge
- Familiarity with life safety codes and regulatory compliance (NFPA, OSHA, EPA, CMS)
- Environmental services operations and grounds maintenance
- Contractor oversight and construction phasing coordination
- Personnel management, training and leadership skills
- Customer-service orientation and cross-department collaboration
