Roles & Responsibilities
- Collect patient specimens accurately and courteously, ensuring correct labeling and chain of custody
- Perform and validate laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, and/or microbiology using automated and manual methods
- Analyze test results for validity and accuracy before release to patient charts
- Perform and interpret quality control and proficiency testing to maintain test integrity
- Report and document critical results promptly to nursing and physician teams
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
- Participate in method and instrument evaluations and assist with implementation
- Teach and train new staff and students while maintaining your own competency on current and new methods
Qualifications
- Current MLS or MLT Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification required (BB, C, H or M accepted)
- Qualified to perform CLIA high complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 standards
- Hands-on experience in hematology and blood bank (required)
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and result validation
- Demonstrated ability with quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with nurses, physicians, and laboratory team members
Education
- MLS/MLT Generalist or Specialty Certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank and/or microbiology testing
- Knowledge of CLIA high complexity testing requirements and quality systems
- Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for ordering, result entry, and reporting
- Skill in instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
- Ability to interpret quality control data and take corrective actions
- Familiarity with specimen collection best practices and proper documentation
