Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients from birth through geriatrics, following physician orders and facility policies
• Operate, monitor, and maintain CP equipment including ventilators, oxygen devices, Vapotherm and PAP devices
• Administer inhaled medications and prescribed gases safely and accurately
• Perform arterial, capillary and venous sticks and run ABG analysis using the bedside instrument
• Serve as a clinical resource — assist with assessment, decision-making, treatment planning and protocol-based therapies
• Review patient charts, obtain pertinent history and verify physician orders in the EMR prior to therapies
• Document assessments, care plans, treatments, procedures, medication administration, equipment setup and critical values thoroughly
• Perform EKGs upon order or request and carry out other duties as assigned by the CP department

Qualifications

• 2+ years of respiratory therapy experience (explicit requirement)
• Proven experience with mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy and PAP management
• Hands-on experience with Vapotherm and inhaled medication administration
• Competence performing arterial/capillary/venous sticks and ABG analysis
• Experience documenting in an EMR and verifying physician orders
• Comfort acting as a clinical resource and working across a wide patient age range

Knowledge & Skills

• Respiratory care fundamentals and patient assessment across all ages
• Mechanical ventilation management and ventilator troubleshooting
• Oxygen therapy, Vapotherm and PAP device operation
• Inhaled medication delivery and administration techniques
• ABG interpretation and blood gas instrumentation
• Arterial, capillary and venous sampling skills
• EMR documentation, chart review and physician order verification
• Clinical decision support and protocol-based therapy implementation
• EKG performance upon order
