Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care to adult and adolescent patients (15+) in a Level 1 Trauma ICU
- Titrate vasoactive, sedative, paralytic and analgesic drips safely and per protocol
- Interpret telemetry strips and manage centralized Draeger monitoring without tech support
- Troubleshoot ventilators and collaborate with RTs on advanced respiratory needs
- Manage and monitor invasive lines and devices (arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, CVP, IABP, Impella, EV-1000, ICP monitoring)
- Participate in rapid transfusion and hypothermia protocols (Zoll Thermoguard, BellMont rapid transfuse)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care for complex trauma and ICU patients
- Complete unit orientation and demonstrate competency by passing the open-book skills exam (90% required)
- Adhere to facility policies and safety standards (no artificial nails, valid driver’s license required at submittal)
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted RN license (able to submit license as required)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of recent critical care / ICU experience
- Prior travel nurse experience required (no first-time travelers)
- Clean license and background (no license or background hits permitted)
- Valid driver’s license at time of submittal
- Comfort with 12-hour night rotations, weekend coverage and occasional floating
- Ability to complete and pass the open-book orientation exam with a 90% score
Education
- Active RN licensure required
- BSN not required (employer indicates BSN not required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care nursing judgment and rapid decision-making
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
- Telemetry strip interpretation and centralized monitoring experience
- Vent troubleshooting from nasal cannula up to mechanical ventilators
- Experience or familiarity with CVP, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, IABP and Impella
- Familiarity with EV-1000 hemodynamic monitoring and ICP monitoring
- Knowledge of rapid transfusion systems and hypothermia protocols
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and patient-family interaction skills
