Roles & Responsibilities

• Process and accession tissue specimens accurately and promptly so patient care moves forward without delay
• Prepare, embed, and cut tissue sections with precision for high-quality diagnostic slides
• Perform routine and special histochemical stains as requested to support accurate pathology reporting
• Assist the pathologist during gross exams and frozen section preparations to enable timely diagnoses
• Operate and maintain tissue processors and other histology equipment to ensure reliable results
• Label, file, and track slides and blocks meticulously to maintain chain-of-custody and retrieval efficiency
• Prepare specimens and slides for external consultation or shipping with careful attention to documentation

Qualifications

• ASCP Histotechnologist (HT/HTL) certification required or equivalent certification accepted
• Demonstrated competence in histological procedures including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Ability to assist pathologists with gross exams and frozen sections in a timely, professional manner
• Strong attention to detail, specimen identification, and documentation skills
• Team-oriented attitude with good communication skills and a commitment to quality patient care

Education

• ASCP Histotechnologist certification required (or equivalent certification)

Knowledge & Skills

• Histology techniques: tissue processing, embedding, microtomy (cutting sections), and slide preparation
• Slide staining knowledge including special histochemical stains and frozen section prep
• Specimen accessioning, accurate patient demographic entry, and specimen tracking
• Operation and basic maintenance of tissue processors and related histology equipment
• File and block storage/rotation practices and proper indexing for retrieval
• Experience preparing slides/specimens for outside consultation and shipping
