Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care and monitoring for patients recovering from surgery
• Assign and manage up to 15 PACU bays in accordance with ASPAN standards
• Perform thorough patient assessments and intervene promptly for changes in condition
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams, and unit staff to ensure seamless handoffs
• Manage call responsibilities as assigned (primary and backup) including weekends
• Document patient care accurately and communicate plans to the interdisciplinary team
• Educate patients and families on post-operative care and discharge instructions
• Support a positive team environment by mentoring colleagues and contributing to workflow improvements

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Illinois) required
• Experience working in PACU / Post-Anesthesia Care (explicit PACU experience preferred)
• Familiarity with ASPAN standards and best practices for post-anesthesia recovery
• Ability to perform patient monitoring, assessment, and timely interventions
• Willingness to participate in a rotating schedule with weekend call coverage
• Strong teamwork, assignment management, and communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia patient monitoring and recovery principles
• Pain management, airway assessment, and hemodynamic monitoring
• ASPAN standards for PACU assignments and safety
• Effective communication during handoffs and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Prioritization and assignment management for multiple PACU bays
