Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient outcomes and make thoughtful changes to the plan of care as part of the multidisciplinary team
• Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and families about respiratory disease, procedures, and discharge plans
• Deliver respiratory care ordered by physicians while maintaining close communication with medical and nursing staff
• Accept reassignment to other units when necessary to support patient needs and operational flow
• Share clinical knowledge with staff and students and serve as a role model for best practices
• Plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory care interventions to ensure high-quality outcomes

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required
• Active Illinois respiratory license required
• BLS certification required
• NRP-MHC certification required
• Previous respiratory care experience preferred but motivated newly minted RRTs with strong clinical skills are encouraged to apply
• Ability to work nights and accept occasional unit reassignment

Education

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related allied health field

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong respiratory care knowledge including assessment and intervention techniques
• Patient education skills to explain conditions and ensure understanding
• Care plan evaluation and the ability to adapt plans based on patient response
• Clear clinical communication with multidisciplinary teams
• Teamwork and collaboration across nursing, physicians, and allied health staff
• Mentoring and clinical teaching to support learners and peers
• Flexibility and professionalism during unit reassignments
