Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, ensuring dignity and comfort
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, feeding and mobility
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report observations to nursing staff
- Support mealtime and medication routines as directed by licensed staff
- Deliver meaningful social interaction and emotional support to residents
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and resident status
- Follow infection control protocols and facility safety procedures at all times
Qualifications
- Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) or equivalent certification required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- State-required licensure/registration for Maryland (or ability to obtain) required
- Background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility policy
- Comfortable working with older adults and managing common geriatric needs
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and safety practices
- Ability to assist with transfers, ambulation and use of mobility aids
- Familiarity with documentation standards in long-term care settings
- Observational skills to notice changes in resident condition
- Compassionate bedside manner and strong interpersonal skills
- Time management and ability to prioritize resident needs during a busy shift
