Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery care for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients
• Circulate for cesarean sections and assist in high-risk deliveries as needed
• Perform sterile vaginal exams and triage obstetrical patients with confidence
• Manage IV therapy, phlebotomy and maintenance of central lines (CVC/PICC)
• Administer medications including antihypertensives and magnesium sulfate per protocols
• Monitor and document patient status using Epic, ensuring accurate charting and communication
• Support postpartum recovery including wound assessment, Foley care, fundus/lochia management and patient education
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate safe transitions of care and escalations for high-acuity patients

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 3 years Labor & Delivery RN experience (at least 1 year recent experience preferred)
• Current AHA ACLS, BLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN Intermediate required; AWHONN Advanced is a plus
• Previous travel assignment experience required
• Proven ability to circulate C-sections and assist with high-risk deliveries
• Comfortable floating to other UCSF facilities when needed
• COVID-19 vaccine and booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with Epic charting and electronic documentation
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy and central line (CVC/PICC) maintenance
• Experience with magnesium sulfate therapy and antihypertensive medication administration
• Adept at sterile vaginal exams and obstetrical triage
• Strong postpartum assessment skills including wound and perineum care, Foley management and hemorrhage recognition
• Familiarity with isolation precautions, PPE and vaccine administration protocols
• Able to manage a mixed patient population including high-acuity obstetrical cases and homebirth transfers
