Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert labor and delivery nursing care, guiding patients through labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery
• Circulate and assist effectively for C-sections and support recovery in the post-anesthesia phase
• Perform thorough postpartum assessments including fundus/lochia/perineum care and wound assessment
• Administer and manage critical therapies such as magnesium sulfate and antihypertensives with vigilance
• Maintain IV therapy and central lines (CVC / PICC) and perform phlebotomy as needed
• Triage obstetrical patients, prioritizing care for high-acuity deliveries and homebirth transfers
• Document care accurately in Epic and participate in interdisciplinary care coordination
• Support infection control and vaccine administration protocols while following PPE guidelines
• Mentor team members, support safe staffing per AWHONN guidelines, and float to other UCSF sites when required

Qualifications

• Current CA RN license (required)
• Minimum 3 years Labor & Delivery RN experience with at least 1 year recent L&D experience
• AHA ACLS, BLS, and NRP certifications (required)
• AWHONN Intermediate certification required (AWHONN Advanced is a plus)
• Previous travel assignment experience is required
• Demonstrated ability to circulate for C-sections and assist with high-risk deliveries
• Experience with Epic charting system
• COVID-19 vaccine and booster required per facility guidelines (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care
• Skillful in sterile vaginal exams and obstetrical triage
• Competence in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line maintenance
• Comfort managing high-risk obstetrical conditions (PIH, PPH, magnesium therapy)
• Proficiency with C-section circulation and post-op recovery
• Familiarity with Epic electronic health record workflows
• Ability to work in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment and adapt to varied patient complexity
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education skills
