Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care on Oncology Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units, delivering compassionate, evidence-based treatment
- Float between MS and PCU as needed to support patient care and maintain unit stability
- Safeguard staff and patient safety while working in a locked corrections unit with Corrections Officer support
- Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias, initiating appropriate interventions and escalating when needed
- Manage IV therapy, PICC and central line care, blood product administration, and complex medication protocols
- Support respiratory needs including HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, tracheostomy management and ABG interpretation
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—pharmacy, respiratory, PT, radiology, social work and rapid response teams—to coordinate care
- Document thoroughly in EPIC and use Pyxis for medication management to ensure accurate, timely charting
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience (as stated in posting)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- EPIC charting experience (required)
- Comfortable working in a secured corrections environment with CO oversight and locked-unit procedures
- Experience with Medical-Surgical and Telemetry care; Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Ability to float between MS and PCU and work varied weekend shifts
- Familiarity with Pyxis medication system and common inpatient procedures (IV therapy, central line care, blood product administration)
- Orientation requirement: available for a 72-hour orientation period
Knowledge & Skills
- Medical-Surgical and Telemetry care fundamentals
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC and central line management
- Blood product administration and heparin protocol familiarity
- IV insulin protocols and endocrine/metabolic management
- Respiratory support: HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP, tracheostomy care and ABG interpretation
- Feeding tube care, surgical drain management, and isolation precautions
- Experience with EPIC documentation and Pyxis medication systems
- Ability to collaborate with rapid response/code teams and interdisciplinary services
