Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care and support to geriatric residents with dignity and respect
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding)
- Monitor and record vital signs and resident behavior; promptly report changes to the nursing team
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Document resident care accurately and timely in accordance with facility policies
- Participate in care planning and collaborate with nurses, therapists and family members
- Maintain infection control standards and a clean, safe environment for residents
- Build trusting relationships with residents to promote comfort, engagement and well-being
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (or state-equivalent) — current and in good standing
- CPR/BLS certification (or ability to obtain per facility requirements)
- Completion of an approved GNA training program or equivalent clinical experience
- Current immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Preferred: experience in long-term care, skilled nursing or geriatric settings
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred; successful completion of a GNA training program required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of elder care needs and geriatric best practices
- Basic clinical skills: vital signs, ADL assistance, documentation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with residents and families
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Situational awareness and good judgment in recognizing changes in condition
- Teamwork mindset and reliability for shift-based care
