Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for geriatric residents
• Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting while preserving resident dignity
• Monitor and record vital signs and any changes in condition accurately and promptly
• Support mobility, transfers, and fall-prevention measures to keep residents safe
• Document care, observations, and interventions clearly in the resident chart
• Communicate effectively with nursing staff, therapists, and families to coordinate care
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control protocols
• Participate in shift handoffs and care planning to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Valid GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — Maryland certification preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but not always required
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by facility policy
• Ability to pass background check and meet facility onboarding requirements
• Strong communication skills, empathy, and a patient-centered approach

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited GNA program or equivalent state-approved training

Knowledge & Skills

• Basic clinical skills: taking vitals, measuring weight, assisting with ADLs
• Familiarity with documentation and charting in electronic or paper systems
• Understanding of infection control and safety procedures in long-term care
• Ability to recognize changes in resident status and escalate concerns appropriately
• Good teamwork, time management, and interpersonal skills with residents and families
