Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for geriatric residents
- Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting while preserving resident dignity
- Monitor and record vital signs and any changes in condition accurately and promptly
- Support mobility, transfers, and fall-prevention measures to keep residents safe
- Document care, observations, and interventions clearly in the resident chart
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, therapists, and families to coordinate care
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control protocols
- Participate in shift handoffs and care planning to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Valid GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — Maryland certification preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but not always required
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by facility policy
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong communication skills, empathy, and a patient-centered approach
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited GNA program or equivalent state-approved training
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic clinical skills: taking vitals, measuring weight, assisting with ADLs
- Familiarity with documentation and charting in electronic or paper systems
- Understanding of infection control and safety procedures in long-term care
- Ability to recognize changes in resident status and escalate concerns appropriately
- Good teamwork, time management, and interpersonal skills with residents and families
