Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living
- Monitor and record vital signs, reporting changes to nursing staff promptly
- Support residents during meals and assist with feeding as needed
- Maintain a safe, clean and dignified environment for residents
- Communicate clearly and kindly with residents, families and the interdisciplinary team
- Assist with mobility, transfers and fall prevention following facility protocols
- Participate in care plan updates and contribute observations to improve resident outcomes
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (required)
- Valid state-required certifications and licenses for direct care
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings
- Previous experience in geriatric or long-term care settings preferred
- Strong communication skills and a patient, respectful demeanor
- Ability to follow care plans, facility policies and infection control practices
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA or CNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic nursing assistant duties and geriatric care principles
- Comfortable taking and documenting vital signs and resident observations
- Skill in safe resident transfers and basic mobility assistance
- Familiarity with infection control, skin integrity and fall prevention
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from licensed nurses
- Empathy, patience and strong interpersonal skills for working with older adults
