Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, and toileting with dignity and respect
- Support safe transfers and mobility assistance, using proper body mechanics and lifting techniques
- Monitor and record basic clinical information such as vitals, intake/output, and behavioral changes
- Provide compassionate companionship and meaningful engagement to improve resident well-being
- Document care accurately in resident charts and communicate changes to the nursing team
- Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and family members to support individualized care plans
- Respond promptly to resident needs and emergency situations with calm, professional action
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (required)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or willing to obtain)
- Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Comfortable working the night shift and performing physically active duties
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a compassionate care team
- Proof of required immunizations and background checks per facility policy
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skilled in safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Ability to accurately observe and document resident status and behaviors
- Familiarity with infection prevention and standard precautions
- Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and clinical staff
- Time management skills to prioritize resident needs during a shift
- Basic understanding of electronic or paper charting systems
