Roles & Responsibilities

• Circulate in the main operating room to ensure patient safety and smooth case flow
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and scrub techs during a wide variety of cases including CABG, robotics (Da Vinci XI), total joints, spine, TAVR and trauma
• Maintain strict sterile technique and operate common OR equipment like saws, drills, Bovie/ESU, Triad and cell saver
• Provide 1:1 perioperative nursing care across age groups — pediatric through geriatric
• Support conscious sedation and procedural sedation processes as needed
• Document intraoperative events, medications, and patient monitoring accurately and promptly
• Participate in unit call rotation (2-4 days/month) and respond to urgent surgical needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Missouri (compact license acceptable if applicable)
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred
• Prior perioperative/Operating Room nursing experience and comfort circulating in the OR
• Experience with cardioversion/defibrillation and procedural sedation considered essential
• Comfort with IV line management, PICC/central line familiarity preferred
• Ability to work in a trauma-designated environment and adapt to fast-paced surgical cases

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Operating Room Nursing and Perioperative Care
• Sterile technique and surgical instrumentation (saws, drills, stapling devices)
• Circulating duties and patient monitoring in the OR
• Cardioversion/Defibrillation and Procedural Sedation support
• Familiarity with robotic surgery (Da Vinci XI), Bovie/ESU/Triad/Neptune and cell saver
• Experience with microscopes, suction/smoke evacuation and cryo/retina equipment
• Trauma care experience and ability to manage diverse surgical case mixes
