Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist providers by performing patient assessments, taking histories and vital signs
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to orders
- Prepare patients and equipment for exams and diagnostic procedures
- Educate patients and families about medications, diagnoses and self-care plans
- Document encounters and relevant ICD-10/CPT basics to support accurate coding and billing
- Communicate effectively with the care team to coordinate patient care and follow-up
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies and prioritize patient safety at all times
Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with an active Pennsylvania Practical Nurse License
- Current BLS (Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
- Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
- One year of nursing experience preferred (clinic or physician office experience a plus)
- Comfort with medication administration, patient assessment and physician office procedures
- Ability to travel to other offices as needed and adapt to a busy clinic environment
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and monitoring for patient safety
- Patient assessment and clinical observation skills
- Medical terminology to support clear communication with providers and colleagues
- Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
- Familiarity with physician office procedures and clinic workflows
- Strong communication, problem solving and patient education abilities
- Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergency situations
