ED Mental Health RN Case Manager

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Sunday–Saturday (rotating), 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM, weekend rotation with on-call (day shifts / rotating schedule)
Hours per Week: 42
Candidate Pay Rate: $74 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess patients in the ED using clinical judgment and InterQual criteria to determine appropriate level of care
- Coordinate care and facilitate safe, cost-effective transitions across inpatient, observation, and outpatient settings
- Develop and implement discharge plans and referrals to community resources and outpatient services
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, social work, admissions and the coordinated care team
- Support patients with mental health needs to access appropriate resources and ensure continuity of care
- Document accurate, timely case management notes in the EMR and communicate effectively with payers and care teams
- Identify and manage resource needs for high-utilizers, abuse cases, and complex discharge situations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical guideline development, and interdisciplinary case reviews
Qualifications
- Valid, current, unrestricted Professional Nursing License (any U.S. state, PR or U.S. territory accepted)
- Associate's degree in Nursing (required)
- Minimum 2 years of current ED care/case management experience
- Minimum 2 years of patient care experience (hospital, home health, or skilled nursing)
- At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association
- Case Manager Certification (CCM or ACM) required within 2 years of hire if not already obtained
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Education
- Associate's degree in Nursing
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and care coordination in emergency settings
- InterQual criteria and utilization review / medical necessity assessment
- Discharge planning and care facilitation across the continuum
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, social work, and community resources
- Strong EMR documentation skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Experience supporting mental/behavioral health patients and navigating behavioral health resources
- Resource management and identifying patients appropriate for observation, admission, or outpatient status
- Effective communication with payers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
