Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead infection surveillance and prevention efforts across the hospital, including the operating room and sterile processing
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and monitoring to ensure compliance with infection control policies
- Collaborate with surgeons, nursing leaders, sterile processing techs, and ancillary departments to implement best practices
- Provide education and training to staff on infection prevention, isolation precautions, and sterile technique
- Investigate potential healthcare-associated infections, perform contact tracing, and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain accurate documentation, prepare reports, and support regulatory readiness and accreditation activities
- Serve as a visible champion for patient safety and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in applicable jurisdiction or ability to obtain promptly
- Strong work history in Infection Control with direct experience in operating room and sterile processing environments
- Familiarity with hospital-wide infection prevention programs and policy implementation
- Excellent communication and education skills to influence multidisciplinary teams
- CIC (Certification in Infection Control) or similar is a plus but not required
- BLS required; additional certifications like ACLS a plus
Education
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- BSN preferred or equivalent clinical experience in hospital nursing/infection control
Knowledge & Skills
- Infection prevention principles and surveillance methodologies
- Sterile processing standards and operating room infection control practices
- Policy development, audit, and compliance activities
- Data collection, reporting, and root cause analysis for HAI events
- Strong interpersonal skills for staff coaching and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and infection control software
