Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide focused post-anesthesia recovery care, monitoring patients as they awaken and stabilize
- Assess and manage pain, airway and vital signs, intervening promptly when patients need escalation
- Administer medications and IV therapies safely, following hospital protocols
- Perform thorough pre- and post-procedure assessments and document care clearly in the chart
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical teams and physicians to ensure smooth patient transitions
- Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions
- Participate in weekend call rotations and handoffs to maintain consistent, safe patient care
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (state-specific requirements apply)
- Minimum one year of ASU/PACU unit experience required
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
- Comfortable working day shifts and participating in weekend call rotations
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to respond quickly in acute situations
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) — RN licensure required
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-anesthesia care principles and recovery monitoring
- Patient assessment, including airway, respiratory and hemodynamic monitoring
- Medication administration and IV management
- Pain management strategies and protocols
- Accurate clinical documentation and electronic health record use
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced recovery unit
- Collaborative teamwork with perioperative and anesthesia staff
