Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based labor and delivery care to birthing patients
- Continuously monitor maternal and fetal status using Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Perform thorough maternal and neonatal assessments and intervene appropriately
- Manage postpartum care including patient education, recovery monitoring, and discharge planning
- Support nursery care and assist with immediate neonatal stabilization when needed
- Document care accurately and timely in OBIX EMR
- Collaborate with a small multidisciplinary team and coordinate safe transfers when indicated
- Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives within the unit
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or eligibility to obtain one
- Experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum (PP), and EFM competency required
- Comfortable working in a rural/CAH setting and cross-trained roles (L&D, PP, nursery)
- Current BLS required; NRP and formal fetal monitoring training/certification preferred
- Strong assessment skills and ability to work independently in a small-team environment
- Willingness to work nights and adapt to staffing patterns typical for a 2-person department
Education
- ADN or BSN in Nursing (Associate degree required; BSN preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Labor and Delivery (L&D) best practices
- Postpartum (PP) maternal care and education
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) interpretation and response
- Neonatal assessment and basic nursery care
- OBIX EMR documentation and workflows
- Comfort functioning in Critical Access Hospital (CAH) settings
- Cross-training across L&D/PP/nursery roles and strong teamwork
- Level I maternal and neonatal care processes and transfer coordination
