Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on Med/Surg and Telemetry units
• Assess patient condition and prioritize care using excellent clinical judgment
• Monitor telemetry and recognize/respond to cardiac arrhythmias and changes in status
• Float to multiple Med/Surg units and support MercyOne West Des Moines on an every-other-weekend/evening schedule as needed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Perform and document treatments, medications, IV therapy and nursing interventions accurately
• Teach patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and discharge plans to promote safe transitions
• Complete Trinity specialty competency testing and skills checklists to maintain clinical currency

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license required (state license verification will be completed)
• BLS required; ACLS, TNCC and NIHSS required
• Current immunizations and health screenings per employer checklist (TB, COVID-19, MMR, Varicella, Hep B, influenza, fit test, drug screen, physical)
• Comfortable floating across Med/Surg units and traveling to MercyOne West Des Moines (~9.5 miles) for every-other-weekend/evening coverage
• Prior Med/Surg and telemetry experience preferred; strong assessment and monitoring skills required
• Successful completion of Trinity specialty competency testing and skills checklist

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred but all qualified RN graduates will be considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Strong medical-surgical nursing assessment and critical thinking skills
• IV therapy, medication administration and safe documentation practices
• Ability to adapt quickly when floating between units and patient populations
• Familiarity with Trinity systems and electronic health records (EHR) preferred
• Excellent communication, teamwork and patient education skills
