Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform rapid patient assessments and triage using the Emergency Severity Index to prioritize care and save lives
- Collect and interpret vital signs, symptoms, and medical history in high-acuity situations
- Identify life-threatening conditions and initiate immediate, evidence-based interventions
- Deliver emergency care for cardiac, respiratory, neurological, traumatic, and medical crises
- Manage IV therapy, administer medications, perform wound care, catheterizations, splinting, and airway support
- Perform CPR, defibrillation, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support measures when needed
- Assist with intubations, central line placements, chest tubes, and other emergent procedures
- Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the multidisciplinary team to stabilize patients and ensure safe transitions
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York or eligibility to obtain licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
- Previous emergency or trauma nursing experience preferred
- Strong critical thinking, rapid assessment skills, and ability to perform under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; compassionate patient- and family-centered approach
- Additional certifications (e.g., PALS) are a plus depending on patient population
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in patient assessment and triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Proficient in vital signs collection and medical history interpretation
- Skilled in IV therapy management and medication administration
- Competent in wound care, catheterization, splinting, and airway support
- Able to perform CPR, defibrillation, and ACLS interventions
- Familiarity assisting with intubations, central lines, chest tubes and emergent procedures
- Strong clinical judgment, documentation accuracy, and multidisciplinary collaboration
