Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopic procedures by anticipating needs and handing required instruments and accessories promptly
- Prepare, set up, and test endoscopy towers, scopes, light sources, suction, video processors, and monitors to ensure safe, efficient procedures
- Handle biopsy forceps, snares, injection needles, retrieval devices, and other GI instruments with precision and care
- Ensure proper sterilization and infection control of instruments and equipment to protect patient safety
- Position and prepare patients for procedures under RN or physician supervision, maintaining dignity and comfort
- Troubleshoot equipment issues during cases and report maintenance needs quickly to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate procedure room readiness, restock supplies, and document equipment status to support seamless operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by facility
- Previous experience as a GI/endoscopy tech, surgical tech, or sterile processing technician preferred
- Familiarity with endoscopic instrumentation, sterilization practices, and equipment troubleshooting
- Strong attention to detail, ability to work in fast-paced procedural environments, and excellent teamwork
- Effective communication skills and ability to follow RN/physician direction during procedures
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate in Surgical Technology, Sterile Processing, or related field preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Endoscopy suite workflow and procedure readiness
- GI instrumentation handling (biopsy forceps, snares, retrieval devices)
- Sterilization and infection control practices
- Equipment setup, testing, and basic troubleshooting (scopes, processors, monitors)
- Patient positioning and peri-procedural safety
- Attention to detail, multitasking, and anticipating clinical needs
- Teamwork and clear communication in a procedural setting
