Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality med/surg nursing care to adult patients including post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection cases
• Assess patients and implement individualized care plans, prioritizing safety and positive outcomes
• Float to telemetry and other med/surg units as needed, collaborating with unit teams
• Titrate and manage heparin drips according to policy and patient needs
• Maintain sterile technique during procedures and perform Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing care as required by SIMs Lab competency
• Monitor patient status, communicate changes to the care team, and escalate when necessary
• Work closely with respiratory therapists for patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, high flow, or other RT support
• Support unit workflow as a resource RN or charge RN when called upon

Qualifications

• Current RN license in good standing (appropriate for travel assignment submission)
• BLS certification required; additional certifications may be preferred
• Must have recent Med/Surg experience and MUST have Level 1 Trauma experience
• Traveler must pass dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting assignment (2 attempts allowed)
• Experience titrating heparin drips (unit titrates Heparin only)
• Telemetry experience and charge nurse experience are preferred (floating to tele floors expected)
• No first-time travelers preferred for this unit
• Travel teams must have their own vehicle and comply with the 50-mile radius rule (source of truth: driver license)
• Ability to complete and pass SIMs Lab skills (Foley insertion & central line dressing changes) and maintain sterile field
• Facility appearance and safety standards: natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med/surg clinical skills and assessment abilities
• Dysrhythmia recognition and monitoring competency
• Experience with telemetry and cardiac monitoring preferred
• Competency in sterile technique, wound care, lifts, restraints, and Foley/central line care
• Comfort titrating heparin per protocol
• Ability to collaborate effectively with RTs, charge RN, and house supervisor
• Good critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills
