Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Rotating shifts (8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts), Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends; variable schedule across ASU and PACU. On-call 0-3 times per month (8-hour night shifts and occasional 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage). No guaranteed hours or shift preference, variable hours per two-week period.

Candidate Pay Rate: $56 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for patients in Phase I and Phase II recovery
• Assess and monitor vital signs, incision sites and indicators of stability or complications
• Manage PCA pumps, IV therapy and other unit equipment safely and effectively
• Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and escalate care as needed
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical and interdisciplinary teams for seamless patient transitions
• Document assessments, interventions and patient progress accurately and professionally
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and post-operative care

Qualifications

• Active State of Hawaii RN license required by assignment start date; travelers must apply immediately if not currently licensed
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a critical care RN (ER or ICU experience may be accepted as substitute) or prior PACU experience
• Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association recommended and may be required for some roles
• NIHSS and TNCC certifications preferred and may be required for specific positions
• Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption prior to contract start
• Ability to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays and occasional on-call coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong post-op patient care and Phase I/II recovery knowledge
• Solid patient assessment skills and vital signs monitoring
• Familiarity with anesthesiology principles and post-anesthesia management
• Experience with Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps and Cryocuff
• Comfort using SCDs, Bair PAWS warmers, HP and Phillips monitors
• Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-acuity situations
• Surgical nursing and critical care background preferred
