Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating shifts (8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts), Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends; variable schedule across ASU and PACU. On-call 0-3 times per month (8-hour night shifts and occasional 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage). No guaranteed hours or shift preference, variable hours per two-week period.
Candidate Pay Rate: $56 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for patients in Phase I and Phase II recovery
- Assess and monitor vital signs, incision sites and indicators of stability or complications
- Manage PCA pumps, IV therapy and other unit equipment safely and effectively
- Respond quickly to changes in patient condition and escalate care as needed
- Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical and interdisciplinary teams for seamless patient transitions
- Document assessments, interventions and patient progress accurately and professionally
- Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and post-operative care
Qualifications
- Active State of Hawaii RN license required by assignment start date; travelers must apply immediately if not currently licensed
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a critical care RN (ER or ICU experience may be accepted as substitute) or prior PACU experience
- Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association recommended and may be required for some roles
- NIHSS and TNCC certifications preferred and may be required for specific positions
- Proof of flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption prior to contract start
- Ability to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays and occasional on-call coverage
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong post-op patient care and Phase I/II recovery knowledge
- Solid patient assessment skills and vital signs monitoring
- Familiarity with anesthesiology principles and post-anesthesia management
- Experience with Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps and Cryocuff
- Comfort using SCDs, Bair PAWS warmers, HP and Phillips monitors
- Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in high-acuity situations
- Surgical nursing and critical care background preferred
