Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality post-operative and medical-surgical nursing care for adult patients
• Administer and monitor blood transfusions safely and according to protocol
• Perform IV therapy and central line maintenance with attention to infection prevention
• Assess patients frequently, document findings in Meditech Expanse, and communicate changes to the care team
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, techs, and unit staff to ensure smooth patient transitions and disposition
• Prioritize care effectively in a 5:1 patient ratio environment to maintain safety and excellent outcomes
• Support patient experience initiatives by educating patients and families and delivering patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Tennessee)
• Minimum 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience (Med Surg required)
• Experience caring for post-operative orthopedic patients
• Required: BLS certification; ACLS preferred but not required
• Competency with IV therapy, blood transfusions, and central line maintenance
• Comfortable documenting in Meditech Expanse and using Pyxis, Computer on Wheels, and Welch Allyn vital sign devices
• Ability to float between MS2 and MS3 and work collaboratively with unit staff

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med-surg clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Post-operative orthopedic care and pain management knowledge
• Blood transfusion protocols and IV/central line best practices
• Familiarity with Meditech Expanse for electronic documentation
• Experience with medication dispensing systems like Pyxis
• Comfort using Computer on Wheels and Welch Allyn vital sign equipment
• Clear communication, teamwork, and time management in a fast-paced unit
