Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients promptly using focused, evidence-based nursing assessments
• Monitor telemetry and vital signs continuously, performing thorough Q4 patient assessments
• Administer medications and manage IV drips safely, including critical drips listed by the unit
• Provide post-operative care for trauma, vascular, orthopedic and general surgical patients
• Respond to acute events, escalate appropriately, and collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary team
• Document patient status, interventions and teaching clearly in the EMR (Meditech)
• Educate patients and families about care plans and discharge instructions with compassion
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to improve outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (able to work in Texas or with appropriate compact license arrangements)
• Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience (PCU/stepdown, telemetry or surgical/trauma experience preferred)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification required
• Strong customer service and communication skills; team player who adapts well to change
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and familiarity with EMR systems (Meditech preferred)
• Comfort with floating to progressive care and heart and vascular service lines as needed

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• BSN preferred where available
• Current ACLS, BLS and NIH certifications

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Post-operative and trauma patient care, including common surgical procedures listed by the unit
• Management of IV drips and acute cardiac medications
• Proficiency documenting in Meditech or similar EMR systems
• Ability to perform frequent patient assessments and prioritize high-acuity needs
• Strong teamwork, communication and patient-centered care skills
