Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (primary night shift coverage). Unit schedules include 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM coverage; exact days vary based on unit staffing (rotating schedule, may include nights and weekends).

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage laboring patients, providing high-quality, evidence-based care throughout labor and delivery
• Monitor maternal and fetal status closely and respond quickly to changes in acuity
• Provide direct care in LDR rooms, antepartum, PACU and assist with procedures such as epidurals and spinals
• Circulate or scrub for C‑sections as needed, supporting the OR team during operative births
• Administer and manage IV therapies (including drips such as magnesium) safely and accurately
• Document patient care thoroughly in Meditech/CPN to ensure continuity and accuracy of records
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team — physicians, anesthesia, NICU (Level III exposure), and support staff — to optimize outcomes
• Contribute to a positive patient experience by delivering compassionate, family-centered care

Qualifications

• Active RN (Registered Nurse) license for practice (Virginia licensure or eligible to obtain)
• Minimum ~2 years of clinical nursing experience (preferably Labor & Delivery or related high-acuity OB experience)
• BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN Fetal Heart Rate training noted by the hospital (fetal heart monitoring familiarity is a plus)
• Comfortable performing or assisting in scrub and circulating roles in the OR for C-sections
• Experience with IV therapy and managing high-acuity maternal patients
• Familiarity with Meditech and CPN documentation systems preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
• Additional specialty training or coursework in obstetrics/L&D is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong obstetrics and labor & delivery clinical knowledge
• Proven ability to manage high-acuity patients and rapidly prioritize care
• Hands-on experience with C-sections (circulating or scrub role) and perioperative OB procedures
• IV therapy competence, including titration and monitoring of drips like magnesium
• Proficient documentation skills in Meditech/CPN or similar EHRs
• Clear communication and teamwork skills for fast-paced unit coordination
• Basic understanding of NICU (Level III) interactions and neonatal transfer workflows
