Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the cardiovascular operating room, focusing on open-heart procedures
• Prepare the CVOR and instruments, ensuring sterile technique and readiness for complex cardiac cases
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and the perioperative team to ensure excellent patient outcomes
• Monitor patients intraoperatively and respond quickly to changes in clinical status
• Participate in pre-op and post-op patient education and handoffs to support continuity of care
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and help maintain a safe, efficient OR environment
• Serve as a supportive team member and mentor to less experienced staff on the cardiac team

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure required (active, in good standing)
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required
• Cardiac Open-Heart experience required (CVOR experience essential)
• BSN preferred; candidates who commit to obtaining a BSN within three years of hire may be considered
• Strong clinical judgment, ability to work under pressure, and excellent teamwork/communication skills
• Ability to participate in on-call rotation for open-heart cases

Education

• BSN preferred (or commitment to obtain BSN within three years of hire)

Knowledge & Skills

• Deep knowledge of CVOR/open-heart surgical procedures and sterile technique
• Proficiency with intraoperative monitoring and familiarity with cardiac instrumentation
• Excellent situational awareness and critical thinking in high-acuity settings
• Strong communication skills for effective interdisciplinary collaboration
• Comfort mentoring peers and contributing to a team-focused culture
