Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (primarily; may start as early as 6:00 AM); includes on-call rotation (~1 night per 2-week pay period), every 5th to 6th weekend, and holiday call rotation. Day shift with rotating on-call/night and weekend coverage.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and set up instrumentation for cases across multiple surgical specialties
• Assist surgeons and the OR team during procedures in General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, OB/GYN, Podiatry, Urology, and Dental
• Anticipate instrument and supply needs to keep cases running smoothly and efficiently
• Participate in on-call coverage and respond promptly when needed, supporting patient care overnight and on weekends
• Ensure patient safety and adherence to aseptic technique, infection control, and OR protocols
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff to optimize perioperative workflow
• Document case details and contribute to post-operative turnover and room readiness

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required)
• American Heart Association BLS certification (required)
• State of Iowa Mandatory Reporter Training (required)
• Surgical Technologist Certification preferred
• Comfort and experience working across multiple specialties listed in the job details
• Ability to remain within 30 minutes of WinnMed while on-call

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• Surgical Technologist Certification preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong sterile technique and surgical instrumentation knowledge for multi-specialty cases
• Familiarity with perioperative routines, OR safety, and infection prevention
• Ability to adapt quickly to varying case volumes and early start times
• Good communication skills and teamwork in a fast-paced surgical environment
• On-call readiness and sound clinical judgment during off-hours
