Roles & Responsibilities
- Collect and accurately document patient information and maintain organized patient charts
- Ensure medication and immunization records are current and follow up on overdue items
- Support smooth clinic flow by preparing exam rooms, setting up supplies, and assisting providers
- Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following protocols
- Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by providers
- Assist with procedures, minor office surgeries, and radiology exams when competencies are met
- Monitor patients and report any changes in condition, safety concerns, or unusual incidents
- Operate and maintain medical equipment such as BP cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and manual defibrillators
- Deliver compassionate patient transport and observation when needed
- Provide cross-coverage to support peers and ensure efficient patient care across clinics
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required (AK Certification acceptable)
- Current Alaska certification OR Alaska Paramedic certification OR Nursing Degree from an accredited institution may substitute
- Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; Nursing degree accepted as an alternate credential
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with clinic procedures and patient visit workflows
- Comfortable using EMR systems and medical databases
- Knowledge of medical terminology and age-appropriate vital signs
- Ability to perform life-saving procedures if certified and to recognize emergency situations
- Proficiency operating common medical equipment (BP cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG, cardiac monitor, manual defibrillator)
- Organizational skills and attention to accurate charting/documentation
- Ability to train others and provide cross-coverage when needed
